Paper manufacturing processes are complex and highly automated operations carried out with advanced equipment running at extremely high speeds. The gas-fired ovens that heat the drying machines operate at temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius. Because of the high operating speed and the many sub-processes taking place within the facility, stopping and restarting a paper manufacturing plant is a critical and costly operation. For this reason, planned and unplanned stoppages must be kept to a minimum in order to reduce the associated high capital costs.

A paper manufacturing plant in Denmark has overcome many of these stoppage issues by operating a standby generator set system that monitors the incoming mains/utility supply. In the event of a power outage, the generator set automatically starts up and provides sufficient power for the plant to continue operating. When the mains returns to the required parameters, the system reduces the number of stoppages by performing a no-break automatic return to the mains.

DSE control modules provide highly advanced, automatic control and monitoring, including numerous built-in features such as advanced system reporting and maintenance scheduling. These features align the generator set system with the company’s preventive maintenance strategy, helping to reduce factory stoppages even further.
